So, I’ve been sat on some big news for the last week and a half until we got to announce it formally. In short, I’m one of three new community managers (specialising in the online stuff) for Mantic Games!!!
As many of you know, I’ve been looking for a new job. And I’ve looked high and low, and discovered that actually, the things I’d really like to do aren’t so far from what I already do.
And then, in February, I went up to Nottingham to talk to a bunch of really wonderful people, with a company called ‘Mantic Games‘. And y’know, I thought ‘that’s my dream job, got a new target to aim for in five years’. Well, five years happened in the course of two and a half months I guess, because after things had moved on and I’d given in a little ever hearing back from them, I got a lovely email inviting me to a Skype chat. Then another in person chat.
That other in person chat was a week ago on Wednesday, and I met a lovely guy who lives quite locally, we discovered we’d both landed the job, and the rest, I guess is going to be the history of how we took a lovely little gaming company and will make it one of the most talked about companies online, for all the right reasons.
And, as a bonus, I actually get to start talking about gaming, painting models more and actually *feel* happier and more secure.
It also means that my writing career should be a tad easier to manage. I’ve never done well with ‘full time writer’. There’s just not enough stimulation for me, and it totally doesn’t clash with Nanowrimo commitments either.
So, for my tabletop gaming buddies out there, check out Mantic Games. Stop by and say hiya on Facebook and the blog (though I don’t write content there for now) all of the other wonderful venues and places I’m going to set us up and maintain and tell me where you’d like ME to be to talk to about the wonder that is Abyssal dwarves and Dreadball and Deadzone and some really nice sci-fi scenery. And of course, I get to talk to people *as a job* and geek out. Holy hell, very lucky indeed 😉
D Kai Wilson- Viola is a prolific and often intensely fun writer. Her favorite genres are Sci-Fi, where her Darkness series is set, Fantasy, where she writes up actual play from RPGs she never got to run, urban fantasy, mostly inspired by her bad idea bear (aka her partner, Tempus, and mental health advocacy, as she’s got a raft of diagnoses, none of them particularly pleasant, but none that tend to hold her down for long either
When not writing, and still *thinking* about writing often enough to get caught out, Kai can be found training with her beloved at the Ludosport Academy they belong to, hanging out with family and friends gaming, or enjoying exploring parts of the world they’ve got access to at the time.
A nature and animal lover, Kai is a writer because she has to, because she loves it, and because it’s fun. She is the mother of two cats, two adults and lives in the Cotswolds, UK, with her beloved.
Congratulations.
Seems like a dream job….it does involve dealing with the internet though,,,there’s dangerous trolls lurking in it’s darker corners, lol.
LOL. I don’t think trolls are a problem – with such a lovely community, I’m just really excited to work with everyone!
